Dramatic injury time Tuesday international setbacks for national sides of 3 Newcastle United players
Not a great night for the national sides of three Newcastle United players.
All three seeing their country losing in injury time.
The best news of Tuesday was that NUFC Under 23s midfelder Mo Sangare made his first international start.
The 20 year old made his international debut as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to DR Congo but today he made the first 11 for Liberia. Against tough opposition he did well, playing the first 59 minutes before being subbed with Liberia drawing against Ivory Coast.
However, a 91st minute penalty converted by Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia brought a last gasp defeat.
Elsewhere, the England progressive mood took a bit of a blow.
After the senior team ran riot against Montenegro on Monday night winning 5-1, the Under 21s were up against Germany.
Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman watched on from the bench, as Dahoud gave the visitors a 27th minute lead before Dominic Solanke equalised on 43 minutes.
On a run of 19 without defeat, that looked to be enough for England to make it 20, only for Uduokhai to win it in the 91st minute for the Germans.
This means that the last three defeats for the England Under 21s have all been against Germany.
The most dramatic game of all though came with Fabian Schar watching on.
Banned from playing after having been knocked unconscious on Saturday against Georgia, the Newcastle defender saw is teammates race into a 3-0 lead.
Goals from Freuler, Xhaka and Embolo put Switzerland in total control.
With 84 minutes on the clock Jorgensen got a consolation goal for Denmark, before then Gytkjaer made it 3-2 on 88 minutes.
Then with the Swiss fans waiting for an imminent final whistle, Dalsgaard scored on 93 minutes to grab a remarkable point for Denmark.
Not exactly what Fabian Schar needed to see after admitting his skull was ‘still buzzing’ after Saturday’s incident.

Miguel Almiron plays full 90 minutes as Paraguay lose friendly to Peru.

Fabian Schar was knocked unconscious in the first half but got back up and created the two goals.

In his first start for 6 weeks, Christian Atsu was man of the match as he helped Ghana finish top of their African Cup of Nations qualifying group.

Paul Dummett was an unused substitute whilst Martin Dubravka played the full 90 minute, the Newcastle keeper could do nothing about the fifth minute winner

Elias Sorensen appears to have sat this one out. Not a lot of media coverage of this one but whilst two Sorensens were listed as being involved, neither of them appears to be ours. Jacob Sorensen of Esbjerg looks to have started the game, with then Asger Sorensen of Regensburg appearing as a sub in this defeat.

Medical advice forced Fabian Schar to sit this one out and he could only watch on as after leading 3-0 with six minutes of the 90 to go, Switzerland somehow ended up drawing 3-3.
